Roasted Malabar Gold® Sample Policy

Unfortunately, our sample policy has changed, and we are no longer able to send out free samples. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we've determined that it's no longer in our interests to do so.

In the past, we've sent out thousands of free samples based on urgent requests from retailers and their representatives, only to find them languishing on people's desks or coffee shop counters. Many samples went stale, with no regard on the part of retailers for bean freshness. This is a problem for two reasons.

First, we've made our reputation by importing and roasting the highest-quality Indian coffees, and our good name stands on the quality of our product. When retailers wait too long to prepare our coffees, the quality suffers and coffee drinkers don't have a chance to enjoy the flavors and aromas that Josuma worked hard to preserve and create. When that happens, our reputation is diminished.

Second, we aren't interested in working with coffee shop owners who don't maintain the highest quality standards. In many cases, we'll meet an enthusiastic and well-meaning barista, a friend of the coffee shop owner, or a family member, who will stop by our trade show booth to experience a top-quality espresso such as Malabar Gold. These people will then request samples to show the shop owner that it's possible to upgrade the quality of the espresso they serve. Sadly, many of these same shop owners have proven to be indifferent to espresso quality, and are satisfied serving low-quality, low-priced beans. Arguing that their customers aren't demanding any better, they seem largely focused on profitability with no concern for product quality, despite the fact that the most successful independent shops are typically the ones who serve the very finest coffees and espresso beverages.

As a result, we've decided not to offer free samples anymore. Customers can still purchase 2-pound sample bags for $25, and we'll ship the bags to any address in the U.S. We usually send these samples by priority mail for two- to three-day delivery. By limiting our samples to paying customers, we can focus on retailers who are genuinely serious about the quality of the espresso in their stores.

You will need roughly 2 pounds of Malabar Gold to do any serious testing. Raising the brew temperature, reducing the water volume, and adjusting the grinder setting for proper extraction will take up most of the first pound, leaving the second pound for the serious tests.

We are not trying to make money out of sample sales; we just want prospects to be 100 percent committed to quality before they receive the sample. Therefore, if you order the minimum quantity of 10 pounds of Malabar Gold within 30 days of the sample shipment, we will credit the entire cost of the samples to that purchase. Please remind us that you received a sample when placing the order.
