Washed Arabica, Single-Estate Plantation-A Coffees
Josuma imports Plantation-A Grade coffees from several well-managed estates in prime coffee locations. Many of these estates grow only one cultivar. When more than one cultivar is grown, Josuma pays a premium to the estate to segregate beans from specific cultivars during picking, sorting, and processing. Because cup characteristics vary from cultivar to cultivar, we believe it's important to preserve the unique characteristics of each for the consumer's ultimate enjoyment.
These coffees have medium acidity and medium body, and many also display spiciness in the cup. This is a uniquely Indian trait that owes to the spices, such as pepper and cardamom, that Indian growers routinely plant amidst their coffee trees.
All of Josuma's washed Arabica coffees are from two estates: Kalladevapura Estate, located at about 4,200 feet in the Baba Budan area, and Merthi Subhankodige Estate, at an elevation of approximately 3,800 feet in the Balehonnur area. Both are located within the Chikmagalur district. Kalladevapura Estate is a member of the Classic Group and Merthi Subhanakodige Estate is a member of the Balanoor Group.
