Josuma imports Washed Arabica coffees from a small number of well-managed estates in prime coffee locations. Many of these estates grow only one cultivar. When more than one bean variety is grown, Josuma insists that the estate segregates beans from specific cultivars during picking, sorting, and processing and will pay a premium to ensure that. Because cup characteristics vary from cultivar to cultivar, we believe it’s important to preserve the unique characteristics of each for the consumer’s ultimate enjoyment.
These Washed Arabicas are very balanced coffees. They have medium acidity and medium body. Many also display spiciness in the cup, a uniquely Indian trait that results from the spices (e.g. pepper and cardamom) that Indian growers routinely plant amidst their coffee trees.
Josuma sources its Washed Arabica coffees from six estates, all located in Karnataka State. Partner estates include Kalledevarapura and Bettadakhan Estates in the Bababudangiris District, Harley Estate in Manjarabad, Merthi Subbangudigy and Badnekhan Estates in Balehonnur, and Kerkeicoondah in Chikmagalur.
Our Washed Arabica offerings typically fall under one of three categories:
